06 Feb Custom Brewed: Ruff Brian’s 2011 Root Beer Accord(November, 29, 2014)
I first met Brian when I went to Florida back in December of 2013 to check out the Florida Accord meet. I had a chance to go with one of the organizers of the event Sagar Vyas who is well known in the Accord scene by his many Accords over the years. As soon as I had a glance at Brian’s car, I decided it was worthy of a shoot. Afterwards USDMfreax magazine in Japan, also picked this car up as much of the photography work that I did during my visit ended up as a special Florida feature in issue No. 9 of USDMfreax issue entitled “Keeping it real.” However without further adieu here are some pictures of Brian’s super clean ride and a bit about what it is all about.
Brian originally bought the car as a reliable daily driver band new in 2011, however within a couple of months it turned into an endless project. We all know how daily drivers end up in the hands of enthusiasts. Brian’s reason and motivation for building up this car came from just attending local meets and big car show events around the United States. The people that Brian met and all the builds that he saw around him were what was inspiring to him.
So far it has been 3.5 years since Brian started the build and he is certainly not finished yet. He has a few more plans that he want to accomplish to complete his vision, but only in due time.
Love that Squat.
Brian works in the retail and food service industries part time. Between work and school his hobbies include modifying his car which is probably his major hobby. He likes to skateboard, however rarely has time to go out and skateboard these days as his car takes up most of his time.
One of Brian’s favorite additions was definitely his wheels by VIP Modular. As Brian himself states, “I honestly believe that wheels can make or break a car, and in this case they definitely MADE the car. Every show or meet I attend, I am constantly getting compliments on my wheels.” We at Squeaky Clean feel that definitely Brain made an amazing choice of wheels for his build.
What makes Brian’s car appealing is that he built it from the ground up with a continuously changing vision; and he feel as if all his original ideas, combined with his new ones were a perfect mix of what you see today. The car is extremely clean on the exterior and though heavily modified, still keeps a very OEM appearance with subtle additions.
Auto Techniques Paint and Body out of Jacksonville Florida is behind some of the toughest rides out in Florida today. Make sure to check them out when you are in Jacksonville to come by and say hi. Perhaps you will be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of some of the current builds they are in the process of completing.
The custom front bumper, widened rear quarter panels (by Rogue Auto Werks), and custom paint are what really set this car apart from all the other Accord Coupes you’ll see in the states; as well as the stance both at ride height, and aired out.
AIRREX digital air suspension made it so Brian can still drive his car low like it’s on coils, however once he is ready to park and air out, people can’t believe the car is on bags.
Brian would like to give special thanks and major shout out to Auto Techniques Paint & Body in Orange Park, Florida for all the work they have done for him over the last 2 years. Thanks to Malihini Customs in Jacksonville, Florida for all the interior work. Special Thanks to Tong Phan at VIP Modular wheels for providing the best service in the industry. He would also want to give a special thanks to all his friends and family for supporting his build: most importantly Tyler Laabs, and his girlfriend Shana Duguay.
