23 Jun California Love: Corey “Accord” Spencer’s Honda Accord.
I met Corey while on my trip with my friend Sagar Vyas in California, who is one of the original organizers of the Cali Accord meet. The purpose of our trip actually, was really to go to SEMA, however we decided to make a pit stop in Los Angeles California along the way. Sagar introduced me to some of his friends in Cali, and especially Corey who he has met while being involved with the CALI accord meet. As soon as I saw Corey’s car, and having my camera gear handy I decided it was time to shoot this beauty. Shortly after USDMfreax magazine in Japan picked this shoot up for one of their features.
After shooting Corey’s car I wanted to find out more about what really drove him to build such a cool looking car. The inspiration behind Corey’s build was that he wanted to modify a Honda chassis that wasn’t popular at the moment. He had been to car meets and shows, and saw that there were few to no accords properly modified out there. Since he always loved Hondas, and being a taller guy, the Honda Accord suited him well.
Corey is an HVAC technician, which consists of working on commercial and residential air conditioning and heating units for the past five years. It appears hard work has paid of for Corey.
The Fiji blue accord stands apart from the rest because the majority of accords in its generation are automatic and underpowered. Corey opted for more torque and horse power, therefore he chose to run the H23 Blue Top from the CH9 Accord Wagon in Japan. Along with the motor, he mated a H22 USDM 98 prelude transmission for the shorter gearing, and I must say they pair up nicely. The exhaust growl from the race header to the muffler is music to his ears every time he drives his accord. This healthy JDM spec engine made impressive numbers on the dyno as well, putting down 220 WHP with stock internals.
I asked Corey why in particular he chose the Accord Coup and not any other car and his reasoning was that he wanted a reliable daily car that was a four cylinder, good on gas mileage, and of course VTEC. He always loved coupes for their sporty and aggressive body style.
Corey bought the car stock in 2005. In 2007 his first mod was lowering the car on TEIN Springs with Work VS Mesh Wheels. At that point in time, his car was just a daily driver and nothing more, until about 2010 when he started heavily modifying the car to what it eventually is today.
The Fiji Blue Pearl paint on Corey’s coupe is an attention grabber. Rolling up to car meets and car shows, the car breaks necks due to the color hue. The paint on the accord truly pops, especially in the sunlight which brings out the heavy metallic in the paint.
Corey grew up in Los Angeles County and always had a love for import cars and graffiti at a young age. His graffiti alias was Elite, and Corey has been tagging the streets of Los Angeles since he was 14 years old. Now he only sticks to legal graffiti at his homie Nate’s shop, Nastie Garage, from Cali Love Crew, and other opportunities that arise. Corey loves building his accord, as well as his wife’s 2005 Acura Integra Type S. Those two cars have occupied the last five or so years of his life. Corey also enjoys drinking craft beers from all over the world, but is currently enjoying IPAs at the moment.
V TEC!
The classic BBS LMs, powder coated in pearl white, accompanied by gunmetal gray hard ware, truly compliments the vibrant color on the coupe. Polished lips accent the chrome trim on the accord. Corey chose to stay away from the hellaflush style in terms of stance, because personally, he likes a clean, simple, functional fitment.
A lot of people tend to think that his car is all show, but it definitely has go and has ripped down the 1320 plenty of times. His accord is just an all-around fun, daily driver that was built for his taste.
Corey Keeping it all Squeaky Clean, always!
Corey chose to keep the interior simple and clean. His coupe is sporting a pair of Euro R Recaro bucket seats with wedge engineering rails and sliders. He opted for that OEM feel and just added subtle touches like the Works Bell quick release and Personal steering wheel.
Corey would like to thank wife Dionna Spencer for supporting his hobby and passion for cars, ROP Crew, Cali Love Crew, Nastie Garage, 4AE Auto Body: Don for the excellent paint and body work, and Chieu AKA The Doctor, for the engine swap and 5speed conversion, his brother Michael for helping to paint the bumper and lip kit, 88 Rotors for hooking him up with tires and other car accessories, Valley Muffler, David at Import Auto Pros for the tune, and 6th Gen Accord.com. Corey gives special thanks to, “Ralph and Sagar from Cali Accord Meet aka CAM for making this possible, and last but not least Matt Squeaky Clean for taking the time to shoot my car.” All I have to say is that it was a pleasure to have shot Corey’s car and have it featured in USDMfreax magazine in Japan.
